Our roots
At Zijerveld we are proud to say we can boast more than a century of experience in the cheese world. At the start of the last century, Zijerveld was one of hundreds of cheese wholesalers active in the Netherlands. Centralisation and specialisation resulted in a steady decline in this number. But Zijerveld succeeded in achieving clear growth based on expertise, commitment and vision, values that we continue to put into practice each and every day.
Shift in focus towards retail
All the best from the world of cheese has been brought together in a single company. In 1989, Zijerveld, a Dutch cheese specialist, merged with the Gebroeders Veldhuyzen, a foreign cheese specialist. The resulting company, which combined the market distinctiveness of both companies, was baptised Zijerveld & Veldhuyzen.
This made is possible to offer customers a wider range of products. This move was followed ten years later by the venture into the retail sector. The knowledge and know-how gained over a century of conducting business in the cheese world proved its value on the shop floor.
Total solution
The possibilities grew further in 2007 with the takeover of Boering Melkblok in De Meern, a specialist in the production of culinary and Mediterranean products and pre-packaging of fresh Dutch and foreign cheeses. As a result, we are now able to offer our customers a total and complete solution.
To ensure that all activities are carried out efficiently, the De Meern location is home to the production facilities, while the commercial and supporting services are housed in Bodegraven.
